On Saturday 19th September, our Scout Group; the 82nd St Bernadette Bristol Scout Group held a community Summer Funday.
As well as inviting all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Young Leaders, Leaders, Committee members and parents and friends of the group we also invited members from the local schools, churches and residential homes as well as the neighbourhood. Although we were apprehensive about the weather, on the day the sun shone for us and the day was a great success. We were overwhelmed by the amount of people who turned up to the event and were really pleased to see lots of new faces. It was a delight to receive some really lovely feedback from a range of people in our local community on how successful the event had been. We even managed to do some recruiting and gained some new children for our section waiting lists as well!
The day included tuckshop, a bar selling cakes and soft drinks, glitter tattoos, face painting, candy floss, an ice cream parlour, a raffle and ten pin bowling (thanks to Hollywood Bowl). We also had two special visitors to pop in and say hello; Olaf and Peppa Pig (with thanks to Bristol Mascot hire!). We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who donated a range of prizes for our raffle; Boots, At Bristol, Wookey Hole Caves, Krispy Kreme, Fruit 7 Veg Bristol, East Street Fruit Market, WSM Veg and Sarah-Beth Plant Chocolatier.
We also had lots of “fete” style games and stalls including splat the rat, open the door, a coconut shy, hook the duck, chocolate cards and pick a stick. We also had a giant trampoline and giant games. We were also luckily enough to have Avon and Somerset Police attend the event, who brought along a police van and a member of the Blood bike team, bringing along a blood bike. The children really enjoyed hearing about the work these professionals carry out and also enjoyed getting to go in the various vehicles! Our massive thanks and gratitude goes to them for taking the time to attend the event.
Finally, we also had RSW attend the event, which gave children and adults alike the chance to hold and learn about lots of different reptiles; including the biggest snake we have ever seen!! The children were very excited to have them at the event, so again a massive thanks goes to them for helping to make the event such a success.
All in all, the day was action packed and we are so grateful to all the people who came to support the event. It was really lovely to see different members of the community all come together for a fun day out in the sunshine! We hope to see everybody again next year!
