This year's trip to PGL saw 32 Cubs, Scouts, Young Leaders and Leaders travel to Boreatton Park in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The 5 days were packed full of adventure, challenges, laughter, team work, friendship and most importantly memories! The trip saw Cubs and Scouts alike taking part in everything from caneoing to zip wire, areoball to archery, rifle shooting to giant swing. The Leaders were so proud of all of the children for having a go and getting stuck in and being so incredibly supportive and encouraging to one another. The staff at Boreatton park, from instructors to the catering staff commented on the amazing behaviour of all of the group, how polite they all were and how well they listened and followed instructions. We are so very proud of each and everyone one of them, not just for representing the 82nd Scout Group so well, but also the Scout Association as a whole.
We managed to pack alot into 5 days, taking part in 14 different adventurous activities, 4 evening activities ...not to mention a whole host of other games that were played during free time. The food that was provided by Boreatton Park was top notch, and saw even the fussiest of eaters filling their plates every meal time. This combined with comfy beds saw children on top form to complete the range of activities that were on offer throughout the week (Although we have no doubt they all slept well on return!). The behaviour of the children really was second to none allowing the trip to be titled "the best PGL EVER!" by both children and adults.
As always, the week didn't pass by without a glitch.. and after a few wobbly teeth, a few cuts and scraps the stories of water "pouring" from the ceiling and causing a power cut is true... apologies to all the boys who then had to finish showering in the dark! Becoming ever accustom to the run of bad luck we keep having in regards to the weather, the Cubs and Scouts were really quite brilliant at continuing to try their best, support each other and get stuck in regardless of howling winds, pouring rain and hail stones. I have sent out a plea to ask whoever it is that keeps doing a rain dance every time we have a Scout Trip or Camp to kindly stop! But despite the weather being less than perfect this did not stop anyone from having a blast!
A massive thank you must go to all the Young Leaders, Leaders and adults who gave up their time to make the trip possible... I hope you all have a well deserved rest this weekend!
There is already talk about PGL 2017... only 359 days to go! Who's in?
